What’s a better way to end a day than to meet a few friends, enjoy a cocktail, and a few bites all for a great price? We really can’t think of too many, which is why we’ve put together the ultimate local’s guide to North Jersey Happy Hours.

Whether you’re looking for a casual spot to check in on ESPN, checking out a new restaurant, or maybe just enjoying some time before your dinner reservations, there’s no better way to give your day a boost than to top it off with a Happy Hour.

So no matter how bad or great your day was, these 15 North Jersey Happy Hours are guaranteed to turn your frown upside down or make you smile a bit bigger. It’s all about perspective, and when you’re sitting at the bar with all the makings of a great evening at half the price, it’s hard to think of a reason not to smile.

North Jersey Happy Hours

Whether you had a great time on the links (or not so great), there’s a reason to make Red Knot Restaurant’s Happy Hour part of your evening routine. Monday through Friday, 3pm to closing, you can make any day that much better with $3 house wines, $4 domestic drafts, and $5 well drinks. 3 Golf Dr, Kenilworth (908) 241-8700 http://www.gallopinghillgolfcourse.com/-red-knot-menu

If you’re ever thirsty and hungry in Cranford, look no further than the Thirsty Turtle to satisfy all your needs. With the best happy hour specials in town from $3 pints to $4 house wines, $4 craft beers of the month, $3 off martinis, and $ appetizers like Angus Sliders and Irish Nachos, you can be sure your stomach and wallet will leave with a smile. 3 South Avenue West, Cranford (908) 324-4140 http://www.thirstyturtle.com/

The Shepherd & the Knucklehead. With a name like that, how can you not love these guys! If they’re name doesn’t get you, their $4 Pint Nights (they were voted best craft beer bar in Jersey), $2 taco and $15 tequila flights, or $1 off all drinks during their late night happy hour (10pm – last call) will turn you into a (huge) fan. 529 Belmont Ave, Haledon (973) 942-8666 https://www.theshepnj.com/

Feeling a slump in the middle of the week? At De Novo European Pub they’ll pep you right up with $5 wine glasses, $4 select drafts, $5 Tito’s mixed drinks, and $5 sangrias every Tuesday – Thursday from 3-6pm. 275 Bellevue Ave, Montclair (973) 893-5008 http://www.denovomontclair.com/

For a trip to the Irish countryside without the cost, head to Egan and Sons where the pub atmosphere will make any Dubliner jealous. With a happy hour that’s available five days a week (Monday – Friday), from 3-6pm, you’ll quickly find an excuse to leave work a bit early. 118 Walnut Street, Montclair (973) 744-1413 http://egannsons.com/

Since opening a few years ago, Picco Tavern has quickly become one of the places to visit whether you’re from New Jersey or the city. With almost nightly entertainment as well as Ladies Night, $1 Oyster nights, and DJ Joey Vee spinning the tunes on Fridays, there’s always a reason to go Italian. 160 Prospect Ave, Hackensack (201) 561-7450 https://www.piccotavern.com/

The Happy Hour menu at Horseneck Tavern sings with can’t miss deals on fine foods. Slurp down a market oyster with a champagne mignonette for $1, feast on an order of Steamed Mussels, or even Pork Belly Sliders, all complemented by $5 draft beers, $6 wines, and $2 off specialty drinks. (Bonus if you use Uber you’ll get 50% off your first drink!) 11 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell (973) 287-6850 https://www.thehorsenecktavern.com/

Cowan’s Public brings you John’s Happiest Hours, every Monday through Friday from 4-7pm. Think of the $7 cocktails like the Veil of Ignorance, Zest for Life, and On the Boulevard as your chance to be out on the town (without being prohibited). Pair with $5 Rose cans, $4 fried pickles, $6 wings, and $1 oysters to get your night started on the right dancing foot. 229 Centre St, Nutley (973) 542-8151 http://cowanspublic.com/

Part farm to table restaurant, part incredible bar menu, at The Barrow House, they have successfully combined two of our favorite things. Start off your evening with their weekly happy, Monday through Friday from 3-7pm for $5 well cocktails and select draught beers and $2 off wines by the glass or end your night here with their late night happy hour available Monday and Tuesday from 10pm – close (we won’t judge if you just stayed put either). 1296 Van Houten Ave, Clifton (862) 336-7070 http://www.thebarrowhouse.com/

Family friendly, but also known to be the spot to head to when you’re looking for casual bar food, some tasty drinks, all at a great price, Oak Barrel Pub is the spot. With a weekday happy hour from 3:30-6:30pm, there’s no reason not to hang out here. 440 Main St, West Orange (973) 243-0025 http://www.theoakbarrelpub.com/

Join in at The Hive Bar & Bistro for their Hive Five Happy Hour, available Tuesday – Friday from 3-7pm. With tons of daily specials including Taco Tuesday you’ll not only chow down on $5 tacos, but you’ll be able to wash it down with a classic Margarita for just $6.50 (or make their bar your beach with a $5 Corona). 142, 2623, Outwater Ln, Garfield (973) 955-4414 http://www.thehivebarnj.com/

We always love all of the fancy spins on bar food, but sometimes we just want some wings, nachos, pizza, and a strong martini or ice cold beer. When we’re in that mood, we head straight for Taphouse Grille where Monday through Friday from 3-6pm you’ll get anywhere from $2 to half off those goodies. 344 French Hill Rd, Wayne (973) 832-4141 http://taphousenj.com/wayne/

At Cloverleaf Tavern, they take their motto (“Where good days turn into great nights”) seriously. That begins with their Monday-Friday North Jersey Happy Hour where from 4-6:30pm you’ll find everything you need to turn their motto into your reality. Whether it’s a $2 Yuengling draft, $5 wine, cocktail of the week or martini, or an order of the Hot Bubbling Crab Dip for $4 bucks off. 395 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell (973) 226-9812 https://www.cloverleaftavern.com/

With two locations (Little Falls and Wayne) and a draft beer menu that goes into the double digits and includes both Jersey breweries like Kane and Magnify, we really don’t need another reason to hang out at Maggies Town Tavern. But thanks to their Happy Hour drink specials, we do. 1082 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne (973) 256-7702 https://www.maggiestowntavern.com/

Make your day a bit happier with the help of Verona Inn, where from 3-7pm you’ll enjoy drink and snack specials. However, our favorite night of the week here is Wednesdays for Craft Beer Night. All (yes, every single one of them) is 50% off. Sounds like the perfect way to get over that hump. 624 Bloomfield Ave, Verona (973) 239-0544 https://www.veronainn.com/
